All dots connected: Biz Continuity Plan, Sanitizer Price surges, Packed Golf range … to COVID-19
COVID-19 is still a fast moving, developing story every minute.
I was shocked today when I go to my local golf driving range as my weekly routine practice, before I parked my car, I already sensed the abnormalness with the fully packed parking area. Having some thoughts in my mind to analyze the cause (maybe some big event like tournament or wedding), stepping on the range area, now I totally got it, it’s just 5X more people here than usual weekend days. So I quickly completed my analysis — people come here for trying to avoid other indoor activities usually they will do like shopping, movie theatre, partying, since they feel safer with outdoor activities like golfing now.
BUSINESS side: Suddenly every level of organizations in all companies are scrambling on BCP(Business Continuity Plan), to me it’s not a plan any more, it’s an active action or reaction towards the clearly coming risk. How decisive and proactive the measures are showing how strong the leadership is as well how serious the leadership in that company is weighing this risk.
Consumer side: More people are getting this virus more serious than one week ago in US when they saw what happened quickly in countries outside of China like South Korea, Italy and Japan. So people start taking actions, get prepared for the yet coming outbreak, buy protective products starting with Hand Sanitizer, while just like the mobile network, the market can never meet this kind of panic purchasing power, so it quickly wiped out all the inventory from first local drug store, and now even online like Amazon or eBay.
But we are the “smartest” animal on this globe, if we can not buy it from the market, we will make it by ourselves!
Seller side: Why not make some “easy” money if they are on a lucky position, so we saw 10X+ price surge of masks, sanitizers and other personal protective equipments across almost all major eCommerce sites, and good to see eBay took below radically decisive measure. While I do think every decision has two sides of it.
Last but not least, the sky, the cloud, the trees are still the same beautifully presenting here around us every second, so do NOT forget and stop enjoying the beauties of this world even under this highly stressful situation since stress is our key enemy to lower your body’s immunity, especially now you need your immunity to be as strong as possible, so lower your stress and get enough good sleep and read more than usual!:)
