COVID-19’s global movements — The Lancet, Singapore, Japan, next wave …
Tried very hard to think and write about something other than COVID-19 related, while that proved as an impossible task to me and it actually makes huge sense — let’s face the reality, COVID-19 is the most important and urgent challenge every countries, states, companies and individuals are facing since it’s everywhere, although you can see it. While Apple News, Youtube videos, Facebook feeds are 24/7 reminding you this reality.
First, a very sad news — Shimura Ken, a very famous long-time Japanese comedian passed away caused by COVID-19. I lived in Japan for a long time before I moved to US, he stayed as the very top comedian in Japan for more than 30 years.
Second, highly recommend below article from the Lancet.
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30686-3/fulltext
“Inevitably, the next wave of infections will hit Africa and Latin America. The Africa CDC has reported cases in 41 countries; Brazil, Mexico, and Peru have all reported hundreds or thousands of cases. Most African or Latin American countries have only tens or hundreds of ventilators, and many health facilities do not have even basic therapies such as oxygen. Fragile health-care systems would soon be overwhelmed should infection spread widely.”
Third, the country did the best (as I reviewed) on timely information transparency to the public — Singapore.
Below post showed solid proof of contact tracking done to almost every case in Singapore.
Also they posted details(incl. the full name of the violator) of every enforcement publicly about a violation of stay-home policy.
US CDC also has done a solid job on information sharing, I think.
Last, share a little insight I found from California’s
Ages of all confirmed positive cases:
- Age 0–17: 54 cases
- Age 18–49: 2,368 cases
- Age 50–64: 1,184 cases
- Age 65 and older: 1,016 cases
- Unknown: 21 cases
Gender of all confirmed positive cases:
- Female: 2,057 cases
- Male: 2,536 cases -> roughly 55% of all the infection (aligned from the data from other countries like China)
- Unknown: 50 cases
Let’s get through this difficult time together by deeply caring about each other since this is the ONLY way to defeat this very dangerous enemy!
