Reopening slowly — Golf, Tesla, Today’s Deals, WFH, Jobless claims…
The reopening is SLOW while happening in a very visible way day by day.
First Amazon restored “Today’s Deals” page recently which is the most addictive part of its web site, I think based on my own experience:)
Tesla reopened its flagship factory in Fremont after a very public feud and confrontation with Alameda county officials.
And because of its unique natures’ coincidental fit for social distancing, Golf is leading the reopening from sports/leisure arena. Just had a nice family round this weekend, so great to get back on the greens!
Meanwhile, most of the companies from high tech camp like Twitter, Google, Facebook and Microsoft extended the WFH dates to either end of 2020 or just made it forever(Twitter).
Economically, the damage is still ongoing, total jobless claims skyrocketed up to 36 millions in US and unfortunately is expected to keep going up before it tanks. While as any crisis, not everyone got hit equally, one industry is actually adding more jobs — Computer Occupations. Which makes sense since virtual experience actually created more demand for internet based high tech service, hence even most of the high tech companies have slowed down the hiring, while they actually are still hiring more engineers, product managers etc.
Seems this virus won’t just disappear suddenly, so as every individual, let’s do our best and prepare ourselves mentally, economically and physically to live in the world with COVID-19 for a while. One thing is clear to me, it will pass and the future is brighter when we look back and say “That was a tough test, while we made though it together!”
