Monkey Pod Tree in Honolulu.

Let’s be honest — The majority of New Year Resolutions(NYR) all over the world will ONLY last about 2 weeks:).

While still lot of people will make a new list every year, why!? During my recent Xmas vacation in Honolulu, with plenty of time on the beach, I gave it a deep thinking and here are the Aha insights I got.

ONLY Actions will cause Changes.
  1. It’s about “New”, NOT about “Resolution”.
It’s been 365days, we are all little bit tired and bored, we need something NEW to inspire us, guide us and encourage us to keep moving forward! To do that, NYR is a great way to reset (trash the old NYR we made last year and make up a new list for next year) our target.
I do think this is deeply driven by our born strong intellectual curiosity as the most intelligent species on the Earth.
  2. It pushes you to pick your Strategic Focus!
NYR naturally forces you to think strategically to focus on few things really matter to you since usually it’s a short list(for most of people, I guess:)
  3. It encourage you to challenge yourself!
Most of items on NYR (eg. diet, learn something, be more disciplined etc.) are actually about forcing yourself to change your daily behavior for better life!

Conclusions & Suggestions:

  1. It’s great to have a NYR than none.
  2. Make your NYR a short list ( ideally , less than 3 goals).
  3. The most important one — Start your NYR actions from December 31st!

Btw, here are my 2020 NYR:
1. Publish an article on Medium every week
2. Read a book every week
3. Learn a new sport

Keep challenging yourself!

Welcome to a NEW Decade and Happy New Year!
